A new explanation for the WTP / WTA disparity
We propose a new explanation for the WTP/WTA disparity in experiments and surveys. Uncertainty, irreversibility and limited learning opportunities can generate commitment costs, driving a wedge between WTP and WTA. We present experimental evidence that supports our hypothesis. 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Binocular disparity as an explanation for the moon illusion
We present another explanation for the moon illusion, in which the moon looks larger near the horizon than near the zenith. In our model, the sky is considered a spatially contiguous and geometrically smooth surface. When an object (like the moon) breaks the contiguity of the surface, humans perceive an occlusion of the surface rather than an object appearing through a hole. Binocular vision d...
A New Explanation for the Moon Illusion
The mystery of the Moon illusion is still unsolved, even though various explanations have been offered over thousands of years. Here it is proposed that the illusion may be ascribed to an unusual optical atmospheric effect. The considerably thick spherical atmosphere may form a natural convex lens to converge light rays, which leads to the situation that the light rays from the Moon are greatly...
A physiologically-based explanation of disparity attraction and repulsion
Westheimer and Levi [(1987) Vision Research, 27, 1361-1368] found that when a few isolated features are viewed foveally, the perceived depth of a feature depends not only on its own disparity but also on those of its neighbors. The nature of this interaction is a function of the lateral separation between the features: When the distance is small the features appear to attract each other in dept...
